Affected accounts could be connected to your: Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark’s, and Party City online shopping accounts.

Key Points of attack:

  • The compromised database contained basic personal information (name, address, email, year of birth) and encrypted passwords.

  • A small number of accounts (fewer than 150,000) had additional data, including date of birth.

  • The incident did not impact in-store transactions, and all e-commerce systems are operational.

  • Canadian Tire will notify affected customers and offer credit monitoring.

What can you do?

  • Change Your Passwords: Update your passwords for Canadian Tire accounts and any other accounts using the same password. Use strong, unique passwords for each account.

  • Monitor Credit Card Activity: Regularly check your credit card statements for unauthorized transactions. Report any suspicious activity to your bank immediately. If you are contacted by CTC regarding credit monitoring, take advantage of this service to help protect against potential identity theft.

  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication: If available, enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your accounts for an extra layer of security.

  • Be Cautious of Phishing Scams: Be vigilant about unsolicited communications claiming to be from Canadian Tire or related entities, as these could be phishing attempts.
